Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Age 91 years. Son of the late Grant and Marian (Hurley) MacLachlan, Bill was born September 25, 1933, in Bay City, Michigan. He was a 1956 graduate of Michigan State University. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958. He married Suellen O’Brien, his loving wife of 67 years, on January 11, 1958. She survives him. Bill was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, Vescio Supermarkets and retired from Proctor & Gamble in 1994 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A lifelong sports fan, Bill enjoyed golf, watching the MSU Spartans and cheering at his grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue; one son, three daughters and their spouses, Patrick MacLachlan, Saginaw; Janine MacLachlan and her husband Lauro Arias, Chicago; Cynthia and Mark Gracey, Bay City; Sharon and Eric Smith, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Andrew (Jacqueline) MacLachlan, Michael MacLachlan, Ellyse Smith and Cameron Smith; a great-grandson, Andrew MacLachlan Jr.; several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, John (Jack) MacLachlan, Thomas MacLachlan and Marge Merrick.
Honoring Mr. MacLachlan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #439 and the U.S. Navy. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
