Christine A. "Chris" Benkert

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. She was 72 years old. Christine Ann Roesler was born on February 25, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William F. and Goldie B. (Sulcer) Roesler. She was a proud 1965 graduate of SS. Peter & Paul High School. Chris met the love of her life, Joseph J. Benkert, while attending a wedding reception. They were united in marriage on October 26, 1968 in Saginaw; he survives her. She was a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she volunteered making baked goods for funeral luncheons. Chris was also actively involved locally as an election worker, volunteering for Thomas Township elections. She enjoyed gardening, paying special attention to her flowers, playing various card games, going to the casino, fishing, and working on crossword puzzles. Chris also enjoyed canning, cooking, and baking. Above all, she loved and cherished her husband, children and grandchildren and always treasured the many trips up state to her cabin in Hale. Chris will forever be remembered for her loving, kind, caring, and generous spirit.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Joseph Benkert of Freeland; two sons: Matt (Suzanne) Benkert of Chesaning; Jason (Rachel Todd) Benkert of Pinconning; five grandchildren: Dakota, Remington, Rebecca, Christina, and Clayton; two great-grandchildren: Zander and Xaine; many siblings. Also surviving are many sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Bergetta Benkert; and her siblings.

A funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or to the wishes of the Benkert Family.
