Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Age 92 years. Daughter of the late Bronislaw and Teofila (Tye) Nicewicz, Sophie was born October 19, 1932, in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to George G. Proux, her loving husband of 73 years, on May 3, 1952. He survives her. Sophie was employed at St. Luke’s hospital in the Dietary Department for 25 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed bazaars, playing cards, the casino, and trips with the Knights of Columbus especially to Mackinaw Island. Sophie and George were the 2006 Family of the Year by the Knights of Columbus for the State of Michigan.
Surviving besides her husband George are two daughters and two sons, Susan and Lee Carlisle, Saginaw; Mark and Linda Proux, Saginaw; Michael and Tammy Proux, Saginaw; Julie Proux, Saginaw; several, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her grandson, Michael Proux II; two sisters and two brothers, Rose LaFray, Helen McGrandy, Benjamin and Chet Nicewicz. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48609. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
