Dorothy Jean (Wurtzel) Murin

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at St. Francis Home of Saginaw. She was 92 years old. Dorothy Jean Wurtzel was born on March 30, 1927 in Thomas Township, to the late Edward and Anna (McInnis) Wurtzel. She was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Dorothy married the love of her life, Joseph Robert Murin, on July 16, 1949, in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on September 8, 1989. She was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she volunteered with the altar society and funeral luncheons. Dorothy had a servant’s heart and would often volunteer at Covenant HealthCare. She enjoyed crocheting afghans making many beautiful ones for all her grandchildren. Above all, Dorothy loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her kind, loving and gentle spirit.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Theodore (Caleen) Murin of Saginaw Township; Anne (Gordon) Jankens of Bay City; Jane (Edward) Thom of Freeland; Joseph (Bonnie) Murin of Freeland; John (Stephanie) Murin of Freeland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Catherine Wurtzel of Scotts; Irene Waier of Saginaw Township; Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Murin; brothers and sisters: Mary Healander, Fred Wurtzel, Alice MacRae, Edmund Wurtzel, Arthur Wurtzel, Kathryn Kossak, twin brother, Donald Wurtzel, Joseph Wurtzel, and Philip Wurtzel; two brothers-in-law: John Murin and Steve Murin.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Dorothy will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
