Russell Lloyd Waldie

Russell Lloyd Waldie, 94, of Thomas Twp., our independent and fun-loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend peacefully left this world on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. Russ was born in Bay City, on November 17, 1930, the son of the late Milton and Leona (Bigford) Waldie.

Russ graduated from Arthur Hill Trade School and dedicated many years of his life to driving trucks for Bender & Loudon Motor Freight, where he earned a reputation for his hard work and commitment. After retiring in 1989 he continued to serve his community as a custodian at Swan Valley School until 1996, where he touched the lives of many students and staff.

On June 1, 1963, Russ married the love of his life, Linda Cross. Together, they created a joyful home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their shared passion for travel led them on adventures across 49 states and 7 Canadian provinces, exploring the beauty of the world together. Russ's adventurous spirit was also evident in his love for the outdoors - he cherished moments spent hunting at deer camp with his son, brothers, and nephews, and he found peace and tranquility while fishing, whether they were biting or not.

A lifetime member of the Shields Men’s Club, Russ contributed his time and energy to his community and made lasting friendships throughout the years. Whether he was sitting quietly in a boat, enjoying the serenity of nature, or testing his luck at casinos around Michigan, he embraced life with a sense of joy and purpose that inspired those around him.

Russ leaves to carry his legacy his wife, Linda; children, Brian Waldie (Kelli Eurich), Diane Micale, and Larry (Dawn) Waldie; brother, Loren (Roxanne) Waldie; brothers-in-law, Gene (Bonnie) Cross and Duane (Laura) Cross; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Leanne Waldie; sister, Barbara Holihan, and brothers, Darwin (Elaine) Waldie and Milton (Darlene) Waldie.

Russ' family will be present on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM until his 12:00 PM Memorial Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will preside.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Covenant Cancer Care for their compassion, care, and friendship over the past 8 years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of the donors choice.
