Caitlyn Q. (VanGelderen) Herr, 31, of Battle Creek, formerly of Bay City, our loving, kind, amazing, and most brilliant wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. Caitlyn was born in Bay City on September 13, 1989, the daughter of Dr. Jeffrey Theodore VanGelderen and the former Carmen Carpenter. She was a graduate of All Saints High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Kalamazoo College in Chemistry and was currently a Graduate Student in Biochemistry at Michigan State University, where she was also currently working as a Teaching Assistant. After graduating from College, Caity worked for a year in a Chemistry Lab (NeoGen) before starting her Graduate studies in Lansing. On June 13, 2015, Caity was united in marriage to her loving husband, Steven Herr in Punta Cana. Caity enjoyed reading and spending time with her pets, Remmie, Winnie, and Smoky, but above all, time spent with family and friends was most important to Caity. Caity’s heart of gold, coupled with her generous nature and love for life will live on for years to come. Caity leaves to carry on her legacy, her husband of five years, Steven W. Herr; beloved son, Brayden Lee Wayne Herr; parents, Dr. Jeffrey VanGelderen and wife, Jade Hill-VanGelderen; and Carmen Webb and husband, Chuck; siblings, Benjamin VanGelderen and wife, Arica, Peter VanGelderen, Grant Hill, and Mika Hill; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kevin and Phyllis S. Herr; grandparents, Ted and Colleen VanGelderen and Phyllis J. Herr; in-laws, Joe Herr and his children, Autumn, Bailey and Niles; Elizabeth “Beth” Miller and husband, Matthew, and their children, Jacob, Katy, and Summer; Glen Herr and his children, Glen, Preston, and Bella; Rosemary Herr; Lindy Norton and her children, Kaden, Kaven, and Taylor; Tyrone Herr, along with countless friends. Caity was welcomed home to Heaven by her grandparents, Alden and Susan Carpenter, Jim Grove, Edward Herr, Earl and Colleen Turcotte, and great-grandparents, Alva and Edna Carpenter, Keller and Mabel Fling, Fred and Florence Leonard, and Theodore and Irene VanGelderen. Caitlyn’s Funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate.
