Yolande Poisson
Yolande Therese Poisson, 98, of Thomas Twp., our artistic, creative, and independent mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was born into eternal life on October 11, 2023. Yolande was born March 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Henri and Alma (LeBlanc) Boutin in Tingwick, Quebec, Canada.
Yolande was born the eighth of nine children during the challenging times of the Great Depression in Canada. Growing up she learned the value of resilience and the importance of family, qualities that she carried with her throughout her life. Yolande attended school at St. Patrice de Tingwick, Canada. It was there that she learned to play the piano and sing, both of which were two of her favorite past times. She found solace in playing the piano and using her melodious voice to sing, uplift, and inspire those around her. Yolande had a deep appreciation for education and strived to instill the same passion in her children and grandchildren. Being a skilled seamstress, Yolande’s gentle hands brought life to beautiful creations. Whenever her family needed a seamstress, she was there with a needle and thread.
During World War II Yolande demonstrated her selflessness and compassion by visiting prisoners, bringing them small tokens of comfort and hope. She understood the impact even a simple gesture of kindness could have on someone’s spirit, displaying empathy that extended far beyond her immediate community.
In 1949 Yolande moved to Flint, Michigan. Yolande met a handsome man by the name of Leo Poisson. They dated, and after only two months, he asked her to marry him. On May 13, 1950 they were united in marriage at la Cathédrale de Saint-Hyacinthe in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.
The Poisson family quickly adopted Yolande as one of their own. They would host many picnics for everyone to get together. The Poisson family gatherings helped Yolande to learn American customs and meet new people. Yolande often shared that it was the love and support of the Poisson family that made her transition to America one of the best experiences of her life. She and Leo enjoyed building a life and a family in Michigan. Sadly, Leo passed away on August 24, 2001.
Yolande liked to paint, one of her favorite scenes to capture was the beauty of the countryside. She enjoyed drawing and making beautiful greeting cards for family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and going to senior citizen luncheons. The family owned a cottage in Harrison, where much fun and laughter was had there making memories.
Yolande’s devotion to her family was unwavering, and her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother brought joy and fulfillment to her life. Yolande will forever be remembered for her compassionate nature, her talent, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of kindness and strength will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Yolande leaves to carry on her legacy to her children, Roger (Diane) Poisson and Colette (Terrance) Richter; grandchildren, Julie (Charles) Caldwell, David Poisson, Andrea (Christopher) Poisson, Bryan Richter, Melanie (Adam) Muszynski, and Lauren (Jacob) Kippe; great-grandchildren, Jack Poisson, Molly Poisson, Kate Poisson, Ella Poisson, Mason Poisson, Isaac Poisson, Cameron Poisson, Jameson Muszynski, Lucas Muszynski, and Travis Muszynski, along with many nieces and nephews.
