It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phillip Patrick Moon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who peacefully left us on August 20, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 21, 1943, in Saginaw, the son of the late Harry and Alice (Kelly) Moon.
Phillip filled the lives of those around him with joy and laughter, never meeting a stranger along his journeys. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended Delta College, where he pursued his passion for Police Administration. His professional journey began at Saginaw General Hospital, where he met the love of his life, Dona Boone. Their love story blossomed, and they were united in marriage on May 2, 1964. Together, they built a warm and welcoming family, creating countless cherished memories that will echo through the hearts of their loved ones.
Phillip was a proud Irishman who took great joy in celebrating his heritage. His life was a testament to warmth, kindness, and a deep appreciation for family and community. A passionate Michigan sports fan, Phillip's heart swelled with pride every game day, and he loved sharing the experience with family and friends.
Phillip worked diligently in the Power House Department, where his unwavering work ethic and dedication was evident to those around him. After a fulfilling career with Malleable Iron from 1964 until his retirement in 1999, he devoted much of his time to his true passions: music, hunting, fishing, and engaging with his community. He shared his musical gifts by playing the guitar and ukulele, writing his own songs, and harmonizing with others. His joyful spirit was matched only by his love for the outdoors, where he thrived as a successful hunter and fisherman, often bringing home stories and laughter.
Phillip leaves behind a rich legacy filled with love to his devoted wife Dona; their children, Paul (Susan) Moon, Connie (Ricky) Hayes, John (April) Moon, and James (Doris) Moon; their cherished 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Donna Rabie and Patrick (Josie) Moon; special family friend, David Demand, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was welcomed home to heaven by his brother, Gary Moon and brother-in-law, Robert Rabie, in eternal peace.
Phil's family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, visiting will continue at 10:00 AM until Phillips's 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Shields. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will preside with the Rite of Committal to be held in Oakwood Mausoleum at a later date.
