Timothy James Smith

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 01, 2019 at the age of 77 years.

The son of the late Charles James and Catherine (LaVigne) Smith was born on October 26, 1941 in Saginaw. He married Janet A. Pelkey on May 25, 1963; she survives him. Tim retired from General Motors in 1993 after 32 years of service, working in plant security. He later worked for W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, retiring in 2015 after 21 years of service. Tim was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, Saginaw Field and Stream, Moose Lodge #2235, and coached little league baseball for over 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and spending time with his family at their cottage in Harrison.

Surviving besides his wife of 55 years, Janet, are their children: Timothy (Mary Kay) Smith Jr., Jeffrey (Mary) Smith, Jerrold (Tammy) Smith, grandchildren: Timothy J. (Jolynne) Smith III, Megan Smith, Daniel Smith, Mitchell Smith, Jenna Smith, great-grandsons: Timothy J. Smith IV, Benjamin R. Smith, his sister, Patricia Kostrzewa, brother Kevin (Christine) Smith, sister-in-law Donna Smith, two brothers-in-laws Kenneth (Kay) Pelkey, Dorrell (Jeanne) Pelkey and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including his close lifelong friend William Yurcso. He was predeceased by his siblings: Lavonne Looby, Donald J. Smith, Noreen Smith, Thomas Smith and his close lifelong friend Sam Yurcso.

Funeral liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. where a vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Holy Spirit Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
