Virginia Lee DeGuise
Passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at the age of 90. The daughter of the late Harrell L. and Henrietta T. (Nadolski) Thompson was born July 7, 1929 in Ionia, Michigan. Virginia graduated from Littlefield Township School in 1947 and from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1952. She married Joseph H. DeGuise in 1953 upon his return from the Korean War; he preceded her in death on June 17, 2011. Virginia raised five children; Paul (Julia) DeGuise, JoAnn English, Suzanne (Garth) Brooks, Regina (Bryan) Koehler and Mary DeGuise.
Surviving besides her children are her six grandchildren; Carrie Keidel, Nichole English, Joelle (Paul) Craddy, Aaron (Heather) English, Brock Koehler, Joseph P. DeGuise, five great- grandchildren; Angelica, Chapin, Emerson, Sullivan and Ruby. Virginia is also survived by a sister- in- law, Bonnie Smythe, several nieces and nephews including special niece and nephew, Maureen (Bryon) Marsh and Gary Byron.
She was predeceased by her grandson Derrick Koehler, and son- in- law Stephen English. Also preceding her in death are a sister and brother- in- law, Betty and William Erber and their son Ronald Erber.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (1035 North River Road, Saginaw). Father Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. A private interment will take place at a later date at St. Andrew Cemetery. Those planning on an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, St. Frances Nursing Home, Holy Spirit Catholic Church or Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority for Suicide Prevention.
