James Michael

James Michael, age 83, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023. James was born on February 3, 1940, in Merrill, Michigan, the son of the late William and Frances (Beck) Michael.

James was united in marriage with Jean A. (Morse) Michael on February 27, 1960. Jean preceded him in death on August 20, 2014. James graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. He was employed by General Motors, retiring after thirty-seven years of service. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. James and Jean loved adventure and travel, enjoying their sailboat and motor home. They particularly enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC and Panama City Beach, FL. He loved fishing and cooking for family and friends. He was known for his “world famous potato salad”. He loved gardening and tinkering with his tractors. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and attending their events. After Jean passed, he put his love into Steph, Doug, and the grandkids. He especially loved spending time with them over the holidays. He came to every cross country meet, basketball or soccer game, regardless of the weather. Steph has the best memories of huddling under umbrellas, watching soccer in monsoon-like conditions. He was the very best dad and grandpa! He also enjoyed spending time with his siblings, family, neighbors, and friends.

James is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Douglas Hoppe; three grandchildren, Taylor, Zachary and Michael; siblings, Debby Michael, Linda and Bob Larsen, Bill and Karen Michael; many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins.
