Joan L. Wellman

Passed away with peace and grace on January 25, 2019. She was surrounded by her devoted children as she made her passage home to her heavenly Father. Joan was born January 31, 1934 in Saginaw. Michigan, the daughter of the late Clarence and Sophie Schramke. She married Leo Wellman in 1953. They shared 61 wonderful years together until his death in November of 2014. Joan was a long standing member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she and Leo raised their children. She was a devoted mother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, listening to music, quilting, traveling, going to the casino and playing games and cards- especially with her grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her children, who have many great memories, Sue Ostrander; Anne (Scott) Gaeth; Sally (Craig) Tucker; Dennis (Kathy) Wellman; Amy Little; Jeff (Jill) Wellman; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, with a new great grandbaby coming in July. They will miss her in so many ways. She also leaves a sister, Ruth (Schramke) Gosen and a brother, Kenneth Schramke, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her baby, Daniel Leo, a grandson, Jonathan Little, a great granddaughter, Brooklyn Blasius; a brother, Clarence Schramke and a sister Lucille (Schramke) Hemker; her in-laws, Louis and Leatha Wellman, Harold Wellman, Nancy (Falkenburg) Wellman and Doris (Wellman) Gormley.

The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the funeral liturgy. Joan’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of St. Francis Home for taking such good care of our mom and us. You were all so wonderful and caring.
