Mary Jo Doherty
Gone to a place in the sun on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the age of 81 years.
The daughter of the late Henry and Veronica (Griffin) Boven was born on November 23, 1937 in Flint. She married Norman S. Doherty on October 23, 1993; he survives her. She retired from the Bridgeport Public Schools. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Mary Jo became a Lay Minister and Eucharistic Minister. Upon her retirement, she became a Master Yoga instructor, teaching classes at the Saginaw YMCA. Mary Jo enjoyed journaling, reading and visiting residents of nursing homes and hospice centers. She loved to laugh, and hers was infectious. Mary Jo brought joy to many and will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides her husband, Norman, are her children, Morrine Moody, Thomas Moody, Kelly Moody, Timothy Moody; her step-children, Jeanne (Mark) Milnes, Noreen (Johnathan) Schimmel, Kevin (Heather) Doherty; grandchildren, Chris Garcia, Miranda King, Clint Batten, Olivia Gray, Taylor Moody, Aubrey Wise, Veronica Moody, Connor Milnes, Rylan Milnes, Mason Schimmel, Beverly Schimmel and Jack Schimmel; great grandchildren, Baylee Jo, Kash, Kayne , Brodee and Bruklynn Garcia; her siblings, Michael (Jackie) Boven, Gail Grella, Patrick (Joy) Boven and Cherry (William) Stroup; also many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two granddaughters, Amanda Erin Moody, Macy Jo Lynn Moody, her sister, Elieann Boven, and her brother-in-law, Tony Grella.
Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with burial in New Calvary Cemetery in Flint. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a vigil a service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may then call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
