Margaret Pietras
Age 93 years. Margaret went to heaven on Sunday, June 23, 2019, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 13, 1926 to Clayton and Hazel (Smith) McKimmy in Gladwin County.
She married Stanley Pietras on November 27, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2007.
Margaret was crowned the Michigan Dairy Queen at age 20 at Michigan State University. She is remembered fondly by many as their favorite bus driver in Shields with the Swan Valley School District. She completed the nursing program at Midland Hospital in 1971. She worked as a nurse at Saginaw Community Hospital for many years prior to retirement. She later worked at St. Frances Home for several years.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed many trips to the casino with her family. She and Stanley enjoyed traveling, including trips to Colorado, Las Vegas, Ireland, and Italy. She was always cooking or baking, including the never-ending cookies in the freezer. Margaret also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and riding her bicycle.
She is survived by her children Cathy (Mark) Jacques, David (Carol) Pietras, Susan (Michael) Klopman, James (Lee Ann) Pietras, Joseph (Roxanne) Pietras, and Steven Pietras. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren whom she adored immensely. Along with her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and six brothers.
The memorial liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Rev. Peter Gaspeny will officiate.
