John Teall

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at New Hope Valley Assisted Living, with his family at his side. Age 94 years.

The son of the late Elmer and Veronica (Kissane) Teall, John was born on May 5, 1929, in Midland, Michigan. He moved to Merrill, Michigan at a young age. John married Catherine A. Garrett on June 4, 1949, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2018. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was active with the Knights of Columbus for many years.

John worked various jobs in his youth to help support his mother and sisters. He was employed at U.S. Graphite as a millwright for over 40 years retiring in 1991. John was a handyman and could fix anything. He was always willing to help family and friends with various projects. John loved to garden and shared his harvest with his neighbors. He also loved hunting, fishing, and camping. John enjoyed square-dancing where he was the President of the Paws & Taws Dance Club for many years.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses: Sally and John Majewski, Susan Schmiege-Crabtree and Jeff Crabtree; beloved dog: Hank; grandchildren: Anthony Teets, Matthew and Sarah Schmiege, Christopher Rousse; great-grandchildren: Jacob Teets, Justin LaFountaine, McKenzie, Arabella, and Penelope Schmiege, Samuel and Robert Marquez, Cora Rousse; sister: Patsy Beck; his caregiver and friend: Becky Martin; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides his wife and his parents; John was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Brian Schmiege; sisters: Betty Hartnagle, and Delores Hodeck.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of New Hope Valley Assisted Living and Covenant VNA for their kind and compassionate care of John.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48609. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with entombment to follow at St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48609, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, or St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Saginaw.
