Janet Ann (Pelkey) Smith

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the age of 79 years.


The daughter of the late Dorrell and Marcella (Campau) Pelkey was born on December 14, 1942 in Saginaw. She married Timothy J. Smith on May 25, 1963; he predeceased her on February 1, 2019, celebrating 55 years of marriage together. Janet retired from Community State Bank with over 20 years of service. Janet was a woman of great faith and member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish where she was very active in many church activities, including eucharistic minister, women’s guild and preparing funeral luncheons. She cherished time spent with family and friends and there was always a seat at her table. Janet especially enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage in Harrison on the lake.


Surviving are her children: Timothy (Mary Kay) Smith Jr., Jeffrey (Mary) Smith, daughter-in-law Tammy Smith, grandchildren: Timothy (Jolynne) Smith III, Megan (David) Winder, Daniel (Mallory) Smith, Mitchell Smith, Jenna Smith, and great-grandsons: Timothy Smith IV, Benjamin Smith, Jackson Smith, Jacob Smith and a great-granddaughter on the way; her brothers: Kenneth (Kay) Pelkey, Dorrell (Jeanne) Pelkey, her sisters-in-law, Christine Smith, Donna Smith and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including her second family at New Hope Valley. Besides her husband and parents, Janet was predeceased by her son Jerrold J. Smith, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.


Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. on Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. where a vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
