Dr. Joseph Raymond Malek

Dr. Joseph Malek of Saginaw, Michigan passed away unexpectedly at home on February 25, 2023 at the age of 81. Joe was born to Raymond and Marjorie Malek on January 27, 1942 in Bay City, Michigan.  After graduating from St. James Catholic High School, he completed his undergraduate studies in the first class of Delta College.  He received his dentistry degree from the University of Detroit where he met his loving wife (Mary Jane McGonigal) Malek.  Joe and Mary Jane moved to Saginaw in 1967 where he practiced dentistry until retirement at the age of 70.

Joe leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Jane (McGonigal); his son, Brian (Christin) Malek and their twins Charlotte and Gracelynn; his daughter, Colleen (Jack) Linehan and their children Jack and Murphy. He is also survived by siblings, Jim (Marsha) Malek, John (Sue) Malek and Kathy Arndt; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe had a tremendous love for life and helping others. His role model was Mother Teresa and his generosity was often behind the scenes.  He provided dental care for those in the hills of Mexico and Guatemala for over a decade and never turned anyone away in need from his practice in Saginaw, nor during his time working for the Health Department.  He enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity and supporting the Emmaus House.  Joe spent a lifetime restoring antique cars and gas pumps.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid hockey fan, he and Mary Jane held season tickets for every team out of the Dow Event Center starting with the Gears in 1972.  Joe and Mary Jane are huge Saginaw Spirit fans and they rarely missed a game!
