Frank Marquez, Sr.

Frank J. Marquez Sr., age 88 of Saginaw passed away peacefully May 19, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. Frank was born March 18, 1932 in Saginaw and was a 1950 graduate of St. Andrew High School. He then entered the Armed Forces and served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. After the war, Frank was employed in Saginaw by C & O Railroad Company until his retirement in 1984.

Frank married the former Joann Cheeks in 1964 in Bridgeport and they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Frank was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and the Carrollton VFW Post 1859. He owned a gym where he coached boxing for many years and served as Chaplain at the Saginaw County Jail during the 1990’s. He built model airplanes and had a love for Corvettes. He was also an avid University of Michigan Wolverine football fan.

Frank is survived by his wife, Joann; 3 children, Jim (Crystal) Marquez, Kathy Marquez, and Frank (Cheryl) Marquez Jr.; 1 grandson, Tyler (Sarah) Marquez; and 1 granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Marquez; 2 great grandchildren, Samuel and R.J. Marquez; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Cederberg-Brietzke Funeral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave. in Saginaw. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Carrollton VFW Post 1859. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
