David "Jim" James Palmer

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at McGeehan Funeral Homes St. Charles Chapel. Visitation will take place that day from 11:00am until 3:00pm. Guests are encouraged to drive their classic cars for a car show in the parking lot in memory of Jim.

Jim was born on May 28, 1940 to Edwin and Eva (Stout) Palmer in Midland, Michigan.

He married the love of his life, Patricia Goldsmith, on February 24, 1968. They shared 54 years together.

During his life, Jim worked as an auto mechanic for 30 years at Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring in 1996. He had a love for custom cars and was always eager to learn about the history of the US military. He enjoyed photography and traveling, listening to music, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim served as President of the St. Charles Area Museum, and he enjoyed going to the "coffee club" at McDonalds. Jim was a member of Holy Spirit Parish as well as the Knights of Columbus 8808.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Palmer; sons, Dan (Libby), Greg, and Chris Palmer; Grandsons, Matthew and Keith Palmer; Granddaughter, Corey (Keith) Weber; and Great-grandson, Graham Weber; honorary Son, Jody Shelswell and honorary grandson, Stefan Beeler; Sister-in-Law Barbara Applebee.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edwin Palmer and Eva McCann, and step-father, Raymond McCann.
