Gregory Dean Murphy

Gregory “Greg” Dean Murphy, a life-long farmer and resident of Freeland, MI, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2021 at age 60.

Greg was born April 4, 1961 to Dean and Joyce Murphy, their oldest of four. He graduated in 1979 from Hemlock High School and spent the next couple years taking classes at Saginaw Valley State College and Michigan State University. He continued his passion of farming with his dad, brother, and nephews, and he always said “farming was in his blood.”

He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved spending time with family, playing cards, and watching sports. He was a genuinely kind person who was always ready to help anyone out. His life has impacted many lives and he will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

He had an immeasurable love for his family. Greg is survived by his parents, Dean and Joyce Murphy; his siblings, Jeff (Sue) Murphy, Jill Hegenauer (Ray Wardin), and Jodi (Mike) Walczak; his nieces and nephews, Linsey (Jacob) Wardin, Dylan Murphy (Nichole Wirbel), Garrett Murphy (Megan Anonick), Carter Murphy, Nathan Hegenauer, Christa Hegenauer (Adam Scanlon), Ashleigh Walczak, Tyler Walczak; his great nieces and nephews, Allison Wardin, and Brantley, Connor, and Erabelle Murphy; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Honoring Greg’s wishes cremation will take place following the service. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw. Vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm. They are also welcome to visit at the church Friday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Greg’s memory can be made as donations to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
