Sister Anne Ragan MSSp

Sister Anne Ragan MSSp, passed away at home in Maine on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at the age of 101. Anne was born on January 30, 1916 in Portland, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bridgett (Lee) Ragan.


Sr. Anne was a member of the Mission Sisters of the Holy Spirit, a diocesan community ministering in Saginaw, Michigan.  She graduated with a Masters from Loyola Union School of Social Service. Throughout her ministry in Saginaw, she served in many capacities including Social worker at Catholic Charities, Catechetical minister, VNA, and Abortion Alternatives. Anne was a member of the League of Catholic Women. She was an avid reader, enjoyed plastic needle point, sewing, baking ginger snaps and Irish bread.


In addition to her parents, Sr. Anne is predeceased by her sister, Peggy-Lee Ragan; brother, Joseph and his wife Gabrielle (Rousselle) Ragan; and Sisters in community: Srs. Jeanne Gutman, Agnes Kucsara, Pauline Boyd, Marie Callaghan, Frances Brill, Loretta Strohmeyer, and Lucia Medina. She is survived by her sister, Mary Catherine Ragan of Falmouth; and members of her religious community, Srs. Estelle Strohmeyer, Elaine Raymond, Margo Tafoya and Mary Lou Owczarzak.


A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 24 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Interment at Calvary Cemetery in S. Portland.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48609 on June 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM.  The Most Reverend Joseph R. Cistone will officiate.  Friends can greet the Mission Sisters at Church from 10:00 AM to time of Liturgy.
