Clarence C. Wallaert "Wally"

Wallaert, Clarence C. "Wally" – of Saginaw, age 92, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Clarence at 10 AM, Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – 1035 N. River Rd. in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Pete Gaspeny officiating. Burial in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery with military honors under the direction of the American Legion Post 439. The family will receive visitors at the Reitz – Herzberg Funeral Home – 1550 S. Midland Rd. (M-47) on Tuesday from 12-4 and 6-8 PM.  A prayer service will be held at 7 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or A&D Home Health Care and Hospice.

 Clarence was born April 3, 1923, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Gustav and Henrietta (LaClair) Wallaert. He was a lifelong resident of Saginaw. Clarence married Geraldine Hodges on May 1, 1948. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2011. He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran and was a life member of the American Legion Post 439 and the D.A.V. Clarence retired from GM’S Saginaw Steering Gear in 1988. He was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, reading, playing cards,  vacation cruises and traveling. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed time with his great-grandchildren. 

 Surviving are: 6 children: Clarence Wallaert of Saginaw, Gary (Beverly) Wallaert of Shreveport, LA., Connie (Thomas) Shaft of Adrian,  Bonnie (Ret. Col. James C.) Harper of IL., April (Terry) Muter of Saginaw and Roger (Debra) Wallaert of Birch Run. 12 grandchildren: Gerrud (Kelly) Wallaert, Jeffrey Shaft, Thomas (Jenny) Shaft, Jr., Elisabeth Harper, Kimberly (Corey) Lesniak, Jennifer Harper, Traci (Derk) Belt, Paula (Jim) Bedford, Jamie (Colin) Kuzniar, JoAnn (Brian) Poplewski and Kerry Wallaert; 2 step-grandchildren: Bruce Unger and Terry Ebersole; 13 great-grandchildren; Brother, Marvin (Karen) Wallaert of Saginaw; Several nieces and nephews; Clarence was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristina Shaft, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
